About My Practice
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Boone, NC. I have over 35 years of experience working with adolescents and adults in individual psychotherapy, couples therapy, family therapy and group psychotherapy. I've been specializing in the treatment of Eating Disorders since 1991. I use an eclectic and mindfulness based therapy approach to treat a wide range of conditions including: Relationship difficulties Depression and AnxietyStress related disordersSelf-esteem, self-image and body image issuesCompulsive behaviorsInsomniaGrief and LossEating Disorders: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder
My Background and Clinical Training
I was raised in Asheville, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. I graduated from the Unviversity of Georgia with a BA in Psychology in 1980. In 1985, I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Behavioral Medicine and the treatment of stress related disorders from the University of North Texas. My training included a number of externships in Dallas, Texas and an APA approved full-time internship at the VA Medical Center in Dallas, Texas from 1984-1985. I moved to Memphis, TN in 1986 and had a full-time private practice there for 30 years. In 2016 I moved to Boone, NC and opened a part time practice. Though I now have a general psychology practice, I've been specializing in the treatment of individuals with eating and body issues since 1991, and frequently speak on this and related topics
